American Blackjack
4/5 on 1 reviews

American Blackjack developed by Betsoft is widely believed to be what players in Canada refer to as classic blackjack. Its house edge is 0.65%, which is neither high nor low as against other variations. An important factor that marks American Blackjack apart is that the dealer always peeks on blackjack. This is not a rare option but still it is not common. Graphic-wise, this kind of online blackjack is very good to play – well, it would be almost impossible to expect Betsoft to develop a visually poor game, for the provider delivers that kind of quality that really shines. Cards are animated when being dealt, the green table felt, a dark leather trim around the table and the overall visual design is detailed to the highest standard. Released in November 2019, the game is designed in HTML5 and compatible with desktop and mobile platforms. The game is found in almost every online casino operating Betsoft software.

A player may place a real money bet on up to 3 hands at once. A bet size is between C$1 and C$100 per hand (or equivalent in bitcoin). A player’s aim in American Blackjack is standard, which is to try to get higher than the dealer without busting the hand. For convenience of the player, current scores are shown for each hand. Clicking on the “i” button on the button panel, a player will open an information pane that shows the paytable and rules. Payouts are classic: Blackjack pays 3 to 2; Insurance pays 2 to 1; and a normal win awards even money. American Blackjack is played with 6 decks that are shuffled after each deal, which makes online card counting a dead-end job. Some of the rules applied in the game are:

  • Only one split is allowed
  • Doubling after split is allowed. A player may double 10 and 11 only
  • Dealer always checks for blackjack if the opened card is an ace or ten
  • Dealer always hits on soft 17 and stands on hard 17.

All of those rules, taken aggregately, bring about player’s edge of 99.35%. The Rules section inside the game provides for a detailed guideline for when to stand, hit and perform other online blackjack actions.

Buying Insurance

This side bet gives a chance to protect the player if he believes the dealer’s down card might be 10, and therefore the dealer’s hand might have blackjack. If the dealer turns out to have blackjack, the insurance pays out 2:1, based on the original bet. Otherwise, the insurance is lost and the game continues as normal. In case both have blackjack, this is a push (tie). Probabilities are against buying insurance so players should think twice before utilizing this option.
